National Mall Adventures

At this National Mall you won't find a department store or a empty parking lot. You will find a bunch of statues and monuments here. I have got to explore the mall over the last 7 months of living here. I wanted to share a few of those stories/adventures with you.

Since living here I have spent most of my exploring DC and I still feel like barely put a dent in exploring everything. I spend a lot of my time down at the National Mall. I go there a bunch because it is only about a mile and a half from where I live. But it is also because it has a lot to offer. On the weekends I like to get up early, pack a picnic lunch, and head down to the National Mall. I will walk down to the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial and end up in front of the Smithsonian American History museum.

Right in front of the museum if the perfect spot to enjoy a picnic or just enjoy the shade. There are a good amount of trees there to keep you cool from the heat. But one of the main reasons I like to go right there is because I love to people watch. The National Mall is a DC tourist hot spot. Most of the Smithsonian museums, monuments, and tourist things are all in this area. AKA tourist flock here. I think that a lot of the tourist that come here don't realize how much walking they have to do here in the city. I slightly judge them on their shoes choices for the day. Seeing people walk 5 to 7 miles a day in Crocs just kills me. I don't get how they can be that comfortable. If I'm going to be walking all day long I want something that is going to give me a ton of support.

In that same area of the National Mall there are always a bunch of food trucks out. Now I can't speak to if the food trucks are any good or not because I have never eat at them before. But a lot of the food trucks do serve ice cream and everyone I see in the summer always has either a ice cream in their hand or on their shirt.

One of the best parts about picnicking at the National Mall is if it gets too hot, too cold, or if the weather just turns bad, you can simply just step into one of the Smithsonian museums because they are free. I have probably visited the American History Museum 8 or 9 times since moving here in January. Every time I have a friend come in from out of town I take them there. I also go there when they have new exhibits open up too.

The one museum that I have not visited yet is the Air and Space Museum. The only reason that I have not visited yet is because they are not open. But I just got word yesterday that they will finally be reopening after a long remodel on October 14th, 2022. Now when it opens again it will be super busy because everyone will want to see what you what they have redone. Starting September 14th you can reserve your timed entry to the Air and Space Museum. For more information on the reopening of the museum check out the tweet below:

One of the best things that I have done actually at the National Mall was watch the firework show on the 4th of July. If you ever get the chance to be in DC on the 4th of July you have to go see the fireworks at the mall. It is just an experience that you don't want to miss out on. You can find a bunch of articles on the internet that tells you the best spot to sit and watch them. I sat on the lawn in front of the Washington Monument. I got there pretty early too. The fireworks started at dark:30 and I think I got there around 6PMish. I almost just watched them from the roof of my apartment building but I didn't. Being down there on the mall and being surrounded by all the history and all the people there made me feel proud to be an American.

Now I have ton more stories that I can share with you about things that I have done or seen at the National Mall area but that will have to wait for another blog post. If you have any ideas or suggestions for things for me to do here in the DMV or Mid-Atlantic area feel free to leave them in the comment or send me an email. But thank you so being a reader of my blog and don't forget to subscribe to the website.

"Cheers"
